How coaching works

Information about how coaching works

The key to success is learning the art of delegation.  It’s about working smarter not harder.  That’s why successful people hire experts to help them reach their full potential at home and work.  So, who do you need in your support network?

This information has been compiled to help facilitate your understanding of the who, when, where and how of coaching.  This means it will support you achieve your goals, resolve issues and turn dreams into reality.  Consequently, you will start to live the life you desire!

WHO is coaching suitable for? Everyone who:

- wants to deal with an issue

- desires to turn their dreams in to reality

- sabotages themselves

- needs to improve their focus and motivation

- is at a crossroads in their life, relationship or career

- needs to sort their finances out

- wants to enjoy improved relationships – including with themselves

- wants their future to be healthier than their past

Basically, anyone who believes they deserve better and are committed to improving their life!

WHAT topics will coaching help with:

Just about any topic you could imagine.   For example, some scenarios I have supported clients with include: swimming the English channel, obtaining a mgmt job, study issues, bullying at work, debt mgmt, establishing a small business, career changes, low self esteem and confidence, anger, relationships, eating disorders and so much more (see testimonials).

WHERE does coaching take place:

  1. Usually over the phone.  Some benefits of coaching over the phone include minimizing the logistics of travel and obviously various distractions whilst increasing the time available to both parties.
  2. Face to face and during retreats and workshops which is equally effective – especially for people not keen on utilising the phone.
  3. E-mail coaching is also becoming increasingly popular, especially as a supportive tool in-between sessions.

WHEN is coaching delivered:

By arrangement.

How long does coaching last for:

Good question.  Basically, it will last as long you need it.  But what you really want to know is how long will this arrangement last in terms of your time and financial investment?   In essence, coaching is results orientated, so it tends to be fast and powerful which makes it enjoyable and rewarding.   See some of my testimonials for an idea of how long clients with certain issues tended to need coaching if that would help you.

What i will say is there is no such thing as a typical client or scenario as you’ll appreciate, we’re all individual but on the whole, I can tell you that we tend to find each issue often only takes a few sessions.

Obviously bigger goals or more ingrained habitual issues may take longer, it all depends on you.  Also, resolving one issue may result in a desire to resolve another issue and so on.  Many clients have less than half a dozen sessions but come back for regular M.O.T.s to maintain their focus, motivation and commitment.  Clients find coaching extremely rewarding and being results orientated, there is no need to worry about long term dependency.   I may work with clients over a period of years as and when new issues arise but others simply book me for an hour as necessary, it’s up to you.

Coach’s responsibility:

My responsibility as your coach is to stimulate you to look at life differently. To challenge you to accept accountability for making the choices you make (personal or business).  I’ll support, guide and motivate you to transform your life or business through improved physical and mental health – step by step (which could mean working on a wide range of issues as necessary).

I resolve to inspire you to develop a positive mental attitude whilst encouraging you to maintain a peak performance approach to everything you do be it your health, finances, career or relationships.

I will actively listen and be totally focused on you and your issues. I will facilitate you with making the changes you desire to live the life you deserve.  I will also help you to establish achievable goals and provide a framework of support for you during your transition.

I will not criticise or make judgements of you.  Neither will I make suggestions, I’m not you, no-one knows you or your situation better than you.  However, if you get really stuck, I may share experiences of how similar scenarios have been overcome but only when you’ve exhausted your own options to minimise the chances of influencing you.   Instead, I will encourage you to find the answers you seek while planning how to overcome any obstacles in your way though insightful questions which is often the most effective and rewarding way forward.

Be reassured, we do not need to delve into your past unless you wish to.  Instead we‘ll explore;

-          Where you are right now

-          Where you want to be in the future

-          How we’re going to get you there.

As your coach I do not provide or have the answers.  However, I will help you identify what’s been holding you back, what to learn from your choices then plan the changes required to move you closer towards your goals so history doesn’t repeat itself.

I will also help you to recognise that you have the ability to BE, DO, or HAVE whatever it is in alignment with your best vision of yourself and your values.

This is how coaching works

Clients choose the package that suits their needs, book and pay for it in advance. Our first consultation tends to be a reasonably in-depth fact-finding discussion, which could take anything up to 2 hours depending on your needs.  This is an important opportunity to build rapport and trust while developing our relationship.  Some people find this session quite emotional.  Often it can create a break through moment as it may be thee first time a person experiences dedicated ‘me’ time in a safe, non judgmental environment.  We’ll reflect on what you want more of, where you are now, then plan where you  want to be in the future and how best to achieve this.

Having identified your coaching topics and priorities, we’ll agree the way forward and the frequency of your sessions.  Some clients prefer hourly sessions booked weekly or monthly depending on their attitude, motivation and the resources required to complete objectives and actions chosen.  Others prefer to use their time in one go, though this can be quite draining.  It all depends on exactly what the issues are and your own preference.

After the first course of coaching, clients then go on to book as necessary, usually in blocks of four sessions at agreed intervals to suit them.  i.e. some clients continue with one a week, others opt for one a month.  The choice is yours and really depends on the complexity of your goal(s) and the time period required for achieving them.
